27 June 2012 - The Canadian International Trade Tribunal initiated an expiry review of its finding made on 10 March 2008, in Inquiry No. NQ-2007-001, concerning the dumping and subsidizing of seamless carbon or alloy steel oil and gas well casing from China.

World Stainless Production Shrank Slightly in First Quarter
14 June 2012 - The International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) released preliminary data showing that stainless steel production shrank by 2.8% in the first three months of 2012. Total production was 8.6 million tonnes for the quarter, down from 8.8 million tonnes in the corresponding period of 2011. All areas showed a decrease in production in the year-on-year comparison.
USITC Upholds Import Duties on Certain Pipe and Tube After Five-Year Sunset Review
14 June 2012 - The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) determined that revoking the existing countervailing duty order on certain circular welded pipe and tube from Turkey and the antidumping duty orders on these products from Brazil, India, Korea, Mexico, Taiwan, Thailand, and Turkey would be likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of material injury within a reasonably foreseeable time.

13 June 2012 - Nucor Corporation announced guidance for its second quarter ending June 30, 2012. Nucor expects second quarter results to be in the range of US$0.35 to $0.40 per diluted share. 12 June 2012 - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and the Association for Iron & Steel Technology Foundation's "Ferrous Metallurgy Education Today," or FeMET Initiative, and "Steel Engineering Education Link," or StEEL Scholarship program, both aimed at attracting top talent to the North American steel industry, have awarded scholarships of US$5,000 to third-year students from leading North American colleges for the 2011–2013 academic years.
