22 July 2005 - The Metalworking Manufacturing Coalition (MMC) expressed cautious optimism following the announcement by China that it will revalue its currency for the first time in a decade, but urged the U.S. government to maintain pressure on the Chinese to work towards an even more flexible market-based currency system.

Schnitzer Steel Plans to Attain a Majority of Independent Directors

20 July 2005 - Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc.’s Board has elected Jill Schnitzer Edelson to fill a vacant seat on the Board. The company’s Board has also taken steps to have a majority of its Board be independent directors as defined by NASDAQ rules. As part of its planned transition, the Board accepted the resignations from the Board of three Schnitzer family members.

May Steel Shipments Dip Slightly from Previous Month

20 July 2005 - U.S. steel mills shipped 8,387,000 net tons in May 2005, according to the latest data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). May shipments represent an 8.8% decrease from the 9,194,000 net tons shipped in May 2004, and a 1.8% decrease from the 8,545,000 net tons shipped in the previous month, April 2005.

Court Grants Stelco Additional Extension of Stay Period

19 July 2005 - Stelco Inc. was granted an Order of the Superior Court of Justice (Ontario) extending the stay period under its Court-supervised restructuring. Scheduled to expire July 18, 2005, the new order extends Stelco’s stay period until September 9, 2005.

Northwest Pipe Announces Steel Pipe Order

18 July 2005 - Northwest Pipe Co. has been named to supply approximately $13 million of welded steel pipe for the Central Brown County Water Authority. The Authority is a six-community consortium of Wisconsin communities whose mission is to provide for the long-term drinking water needs for its members.

Stelco Court Monitor Files 33rd Report

18 July 2005 - Stelco Inc.’s court-appointed Monitor has filed its thirty-third report regarding the company's Court-supervised restructuring. The Report provides updated information regarding meetings held with shareholder groups, the lack of consensus among shareholder groups, current industry conditions and their impact on Stelco’s financial results, and Stelco’s request for extension of the stay period.
