SMS Meer Supplies Seamless Tube Plant for Hengyang Valin

22 June 2011 - At the Hunan works of Chinese tube producer Hengyang Valin Steel Tube, erection has started of the new PQF® plant supplied by SMS Meer. The mill is designed for an annual capacity of 500,000 tonnes of seamless tubes in diameters up to 180 m.

Preliminary Steel Imports Increase 6% in May

Commercial Metals Reports 3rd Quarter Results

22 June 2011 - Commercial Metals Co. reported net income of $36.2 million, or $0.31 per diluted share, on net sales of $2.1 billion for the quarter ended May 31, 2011. This compares with a net loss of $8.8 million, or $0.08 per diluted share, on net sales of $1.8 billion for last year's Q3.

Siemens VAI to Modernize Hot Mill for ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe

21 June 2011 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG to completely modernize its hot strip rolling mill no. 1 in Duisburg-Bruckhausen, Germany. Modernization of the hot mill is scheduled for completion in August 2012.

Carpenter Technology to Acquire Latrobe

21 June 2011 - Carpenter Technology Corp. and Latrobe Specialty Metals, Inc. have entered into a definitive merger agreement whereby Carpenter will acquire Latrobe in a transaction valued at approximately $558 million.
