April Steel Shipments down 9.3% from March
06/17/2011 - U.S. steel mills shipped 7,258,534 net tons for the month of April 2011, a 9.3% decrease from the 8,006,016 net tons shipped in the previous month according to the latest report from the AISI.
U.S. steel mills shipped 7,258,534 net tons for the month of April 2011, according to the latest report from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The April total represents a 9.3% decrease from the 8,006,016 net tons shipped in the previous month, March 2011, and a 2.8% increase from the 7,057,660 net tons shipped in April 2010.
Year-to-date shipments are 29,760,685 net tons, a 7.8% increase vs. 2010 shipments of 27,575,482 net tons for the first four months. 2011 shipments through April would annualize at 89 million tons.
A month-to-month comparison of shipments shows the following changes
· Hot dip galvanized sheet and strip, - 6%
· Hot rolled sheet, - 11%
· Cold rolled sheet, - 15%
