American Iron and Steel Institute
AISI serves as the voice of the North American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice. AISI also plays a lead role in the development and application of new steels and steelmaking technology. AISI is comprised of 23 member companies, including integrated and electric furnace steelmakers, and approximately 125 associate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel industry. AISI's member companies represent over three quarters of both U.S. and North American steel capacity.

AISI: Preliminary U.S. Steel Imports Rose 14% in August
25 September 2013 - Based on preliminary Census Bureau data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that the U.S. imported a total of 2,870,000 tons of steel in August, including 2,199,000 tons of finished steel (up 13.9% and 9.8%, respectively, vs. July final data). Year-to-date (YTD) total and finished steel imports are 21,123,000 and 16,569,000 tons, respectively, down 9% and 7% vs. 2012.

23 September 2013 - More than one billion tons of steel have been recycled by the North American steel industry since 1988, according to the Steel Recycling Institute (SRI), a business unit of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). SRI marks its 25th anniversary this year with this milestone achievement and the release of the 2012 steel recycling rates.
