U.S. Steel Mill Shipments Drop in September
11/18/2013 - Shipments from U.S. steel mills totaled 7,879,747 tons in September 2013, a 5.6% drop from the month before, AISI reports.
The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the month of September 2013, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,879,747 tons of steel products, a 5.6% decrease from the 8,343,075 tons shipped in the previous month, August 2013, and a 8.9% increase from the 7,233,375 tons shipped in September 2012. Shipments year-to-date in 2013 are 71,898,807 tons, a 2.4% decrease vs. 2012 shipments of 73,638,127 tons for nine months.
A comparison of September shipments to the previous month of August shows the following changes: hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip down 4%, hot rolled sheet down 5%, and cold rolled sheet down 5%.
