AISI Commends SMA President
10/04/2013 - Thomas J. Gibson, president and CEO of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), issued the following statement in reaction to the announcement that Philip K. Bell, director of external communications and public affairs for Gerdau Long Steel North America, has been named president of the Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) to succeed Tom Danjczek who earlier this year announced his plans to retire as president:
“It has been a privilege to work with Tom Danjczek these many years in our shared goals of promoting the steel industry and its workers. Tom has been an articulate and aggressive advocate for our industry. AISI members have the utmost respect and admiration for Tom and his commitment to keeping the steel industry strong. We wish him well in his retirement.
“We look forward to continuing to work closely with SMA under the new leadership of Phil Bell when he takes over as president next month. Phil has been an active voice for the steel industry, recently serving as chairman of the Strategic Communications Council at AISI. His passion for the industry is evident, and he will be an outstanding advocate for SMA. We congratulate him on this new endeavor.”
