U.S.-Based Feralloy Plans Upgrades to South Carolina Cut-to-Length Line
01/13/2016 - North American steel processor Feralloy Corp. is upgrading the cut-to-length line at its Huger, S.C., USA, facility, the vendor on the project has announced.
The vendor, Butech Bliss, said it will install a Synergy hydraulic roller leveler, equipped with independent entry- and exit-roll settings, a closed-loop system to compensate for machine deflection, and operator-friendly controls.
The roller leveler also features a quick-change roll cartridge system and scale removal conveyor system, the company said.
Additionally, Butech Bliss will install a stretch leveler that has a 45-foot stretch bed and 1,850 tons of stretching force, it said.
“The stretch leveler also is equipped with the Hawkeye flatness detection system, which consists of an array of sensors mounted across the width of the strip to measure flatness deviations and deliver instantaneous feedback to the operator,” Butech Bliss said in a statement.
The new equipment, which is to be put into service in the second quarter of this year, will be used to process carbon steel up to three-fourths of an inch thick and up to 74 inches wide.
The Huger facility is located on the Nucor Corp. Berkeley campus and serves the southwestern U.S. flat rolled market. Butech Bliss said the upgrades will enhance Feralloy’s ability to process hot rolled, pickled and oiled steels, yielding memory-free panel flat products for OEMs that cut parts and components with lasers.
