South Korean Steelmaker Completes Upgrades to Reversing Mill
03/31/2016 - Hyundai Steel Co. has restarted a tandem reversing mill at its Pohang works following a monthlong outage for a modernization project.
SMS group, the vendor on the project, said it installed a new automation system and hydraulically actuated roll adjustment equipment on the 23-year-old mill, which makes beams, rails, sheet piles and special sections.
As part of the project, two universal stands and the edger were outfitted with hydraulic screwdown systems. The stands in the tandem group also were equipped with axial roll shifting capabilities.
The project also included upgrades to the reversing roughing stand.
“The fact that the comprehensive upgrading measures were implemented during a plant shutdown of only 33 days underlines the SMS group expertise and competence in handling complex modernization projects,” the company said in a statement.
