14 January 2011 - Guarantee Electrical has completed a $20 million assignment to power and supply process / instrumentation wiring, equipment commissioning, lighting and voice/data services for a new metallurgical coke manufacturing/heat energy recovery facility built by SunCoke Energy in Granite City, Ill.

OSHA Cites U.S. Steel, Power Piping Following July 2010 Explosion

14 January 2011 - OSHA has cited U.S. Steel Corp. and Power Piping Co. with safety citations for failing to provide an effective energy control procedure and exposing workers to burns following an explosion at U.S. Steel's Clairton Coke Works facility in July 2010.

EPA, DOJ and Indiana Reach Proposed Settlement on Westville, Ind., Superfund Site

30 December 2010 - U.S. EPA Region 5, U.S. DOJ, Indiana DEM and the Office of the Indiana Attorney General have reached a proposed settlement with a group of 13 potentially responsible parties who will pay for and complete the final phase of cleanup at the Cam-Or Superfund site in Westville, Ind.

U. S. Steel, Kobe Announce Capital Investment for Pro-Tec Coating

03 December 2010 - United States Steel Corp. and Kobe Steel, Ltd. have reached an agreement for their joint venture, Pro-Tec Coating Co. in Leipsic, Ohio, to begin construction on a continuous annealing line at the facility. Completion of the project is estimated at 24 months.

U. S. Steel’s Goodish to Retire; Executive Transitions Announced

03 December 2010 - United States Steel Corp. announced that Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer John H. Goodish has elected to retire effective Dec. 31, 2010, after 40 years of service with the company. The company announced several executive transitions effective Jan. 1, 2011, following Goodish's retirement.

U. S. Steel Announces Management Changes

30 November 2010 - United States Steel has named Mark G. Tabler as Vice President-Operations at U. S. Steel Kosice. Tabler succeeds Patrick J. Mullarkey, who was recently named President of United Spiral Pipe, the company's large-diameter spiral welded pipe manufacturing joint venture. James F. Dudek will succeed Tabler as Plant Manager-Clairton Plant.

Canadian Steelworkers Critical of U.S. Steel Lockout

09 November 2010 - U.S. Steel recently locked out 900 workers at its Hamilton Works facility for refusing “major, unilateral contract concessions,” according to Canadian steelworkers. The cuts include pension changes that also would affect 9000 retired workers receiving pensions.

27 October 2010 - United States Steel Corp. reported a third-quarter 2010 net loss of $51 million, or $0.35 per diluted share, compared to a net loss of $25 million, or $0.17 per diluted share, in the second quarter of 2010 and a net loss of $303 million, or $2.11 per diluted share, in the third quarter of 2009.
