Tonawanda Coke Ordered to Comply with State, Federal Laws
29 January 2010 - The U.S. EPA and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation have ordered Tonawanda Coke Corp. over the past two months to maintain and operate its coke manufacturing facility in a manner that no longer violates federal and state environmental laws. Fatalities at ArcelorMittal South Africa’s Newcastle Works
04 January 2010 - Four employees of ArcelorMittal South Africa lost their lives following an accident at its Newcastle plant in KwaZulu Natal on December 30. A fifth employee was hospitalized in stable condition. The employees were working on Basic Oxygen Furnace No. 3 when they collapsed as a result of a suspected gas leak.

Corus Pilot Plant to Test CO2-Reducing Technology
01 December 2009 - Corus will test a new iron-making technology, called “Hisarna,” in a pilot plant project at its IJmuiden steelworks in the Netherlands. The technology reportedly has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions in blast furnace steelmaking by more than 50%.

API Steel Pipe Factory Completed in Pittsburg
13 November 2009 - Posco has completed construction of an annual 270,000-tonne scale API steel pipe factory in Pittsburg, Calif. United Spiral Pipe, established jointly with U.S. Steel and Seah Steel, will manufacture and sell API-certified steel pipes designed for energy transportation.
