ZPSS Receives Environmental Incentives from City Government
12/07/2009 - Zhangjiagang Pohang Stainless Steel recently received environmental incentives from the Zhang Jiagang Municipal Government. The grant is given by provincial or municipal governments to companies with leading environmental protection practices.
Zhangjiagang Pohang Stainless Steel Co., Ltd. (ZPSS) recently received environmental incentives from the Zhang Jiagang Municipal Government, becoming the first recipient in Zhang Jiagang. The grant is given by provincial or municipal governments to companies with leading environmental protection practices.
The Chinese government recently applied environmental restrictions regarding nitrogen levels in industrial wastewater discharged from plants near Tai Hu, the third largest lake in the Huadong region.
ZPSS invested $5 million last year to install nitrogen removal facilities in annealing, pickling, and cold steel production plants that have been in operation since October 31. The nitrogen restriction for wastewater in China is 15 ppm or less. ZPSS says that it has reduced the nitrogen levels to 6 to 7 ppm since the nitrogen removal facilities began operating.
As a result of these efforts, the Zhang Jiagang Municipal Government decided to award incentives to ZPSS. Director General Taoping of the Environmental Protection Bureau and other representatives attended the award ceremony held at ZPSS.
”Thanks to ZPSS’s efforts in technology development to reduce waste, we are producing win-win efforts for both business and the environment. Other companies are learning from ZPSS, which will contribute to green business in our city,” said Taoping.
