Carpenter Technology to Acquire Latrobe

21 June 2011 - Carpenter Technology Corp. and Latrobe Specialty Metals, Inc. have entered into a definitive merger agreement whereby Carpenter will acquire Latrobe in a transaction valued at approximately $558 million. Closing is expected to occur during the first quarter of FY2012, which ends September 30, 2011.

20 June 2011 - Posco’s stainless steel production subsidiary in China has established a 1 million-tonne steel production line in the country. Posco held the completion ceremony on June 13.

Nucor Names Grand Prize Winner of Strength of Steel Challenge

20 June 2011 - Nucor Corp. recently concluded its Strength of Steel Challenge with an awards ceremony in Charlotte, N.C., where eight semifinalist teams were flown to present their inventions to Nucor executives. Entrants created a structure out of recycled steel that could be used to support another object in the home, school, or vehicle.

17 June 2011 - Steel Dynamics, Inc. expects second quarter earnings to be in the range of $0.35 to $0.40 per diluted share, lower than the first quarter 2011 reported results of $0.46, but higher than earnings of $0.22 per diluted share achieved in Q2 2010.

Roudabush to the newly created position of Managing Director – Product Quality for the company's reorganized North American Flat-Rolled Product Quality Assurance organization. Scott D. Buckiso will succeed Roudabush as General Manager – Mon Valley Works. Both appointments will be effective July 1.

07 June 2011 - United States Steel and the trustee for its pension and other benefit plans, Carnegie Pension Fund, have announced that Gary A. Glynn, President of the fund since 1985, will retire effective July 31. Effective August 1, William Donovan, who currently serves as Vice President – Investments, will succeed Glynn as President.
