Severstal North America marked another chapter at its Columbus plant this week with the commissioning of its second primary strand. The strand includes an electric arc furnace, ladle metallurgy furnace, tunnel furnace, and continuous caster.
The company said production of its first tons on the second line was completed ahead of the original schedule.
“This is an exciting time for employees and customers of Severstal North America,” said Sergei Kuznetsov, Severstal North America’s Chief Executive Officer. “The current expansion will enhance our already outstanding reliability, flexibility and cost-efficiency, and will benefit our customers, as well as the local community by creating new jobs. We are thankful for everyone’s contributions to the Phase 2 program.”
The company noted that construction of the push-pull pickle line and the second hot-dip galvanizing line remains on schedule with launches planned for September and October of this year.
