Year-to-Date Steel Import Totals Continue to Rise

01 April 2005 - The United States imported a total of 2,361,000 net tons of steel in February according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). The AISI report, which is based on preliminary Census Bureau data, shows the import totals include 1,727,000 net tons of finished steel.

ATI Adjusts Electrical Steel Raw Materials Surcharge

31 March 2005 - ATI Allegheny Ludlum will add a surcharge of $300 per ton ($15.00/cwt.) to silicon electrical steel invoices. The new surcharge will take affect with shipments beginning Friday, April 1, 2005.

30 March 2005 - Cleveland-Cliffs Inc has entered into a $350 million unsecured credit agreement with a syndicate of 13 financial institutions, jointly led by Fifth Third Bank and Bank of America Corp.

AK Steel Earns Coke Plant Safety Award

30 March 2005 - Employees of AK Steel’s Middletown Works coke plant have earned the Max Eward Safety Award for the fifth consecutive year. The award, presented by the American Coke and Coal Chemicals Institute (ACCCI), recognizes the member coke plant having the best U.S. safety record during 2004.

IISI Reports Crude Steel Production for February 2005

29 March 2005 - Figures released by the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) show that world crude steel production for the 61 countries reporting stood at 83.9 million tonnes in February — 3.7% higher than for February 2004.

Stelco Seeks Approval to Sell Interest in Camrose Pipe

25 March 2005 - Stelco Inc. has applied for a Court order approving the sale by Stelcam Holdings Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Stelco, of its partnership interest in Camrose Pipe Co. to Canadian National Steel Corp. (CNSC). CNSC, an indirect subsidiary of Oregon Steel Mills Inc., is the other partner in the Camrose Pipe Partnership.

Northshore Mine Receives Cliffs Mine Safety Award

24 March 2005 - Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. announced that its Northshore Mining Co., Silver Bay, Minn., is once again the recipient of Cliffs' President's Award for Safety. The award is presented annually to the Cliffs mine with the best safety performance, as measured by the frequency rate for Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) reportable injuries.
