ITC to Uphold Antidumping Duties for Butt-Weld Pipe Fittings

19 October 2005 - The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) announced it will uphold existing antidumping duty orders on carbon steel butt-weld pipe fittings from Brazil, China, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand.

AK Steel Announces November Surcharges

18 October 2005 - AK Steel will add a $193 per ton surcharge to invoices for flat-rolled carbon steel products shipped in November 2005. The company will also add a $220 per ton surcharge to invoices for electrical steel products shipped in the same period

17 October 2005 - Steel Technologies Inc. has signed a formal letter of intent to secure land as part of its plan to construct and operate a new steel processing facility in Juarez, Mexico.

17 October 2005 - North Star BlueScope Steel, Delta, Ohio, has awarded Moré srl, Gemona del Friuli, Italy, an order to supply a complete pneumatic lime transportation/injection system for the plant’s 195-ton twin-shell twin-shaft EAF.

AISI, MIT to Pursue Breakthrough CO2 Program

14 October 2005 - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced an agreement with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to initiate “A Technical Feasibility Study of Steelmaking by Molten Oxide Electrolysis.” MIT will examine Molten Oxide Electrolysis (MOE), technology in which metal oxide feedstock is converted to liquid metal and oxygen gas. No CO or CO2 is produced during the conversion process.

Metals USA Announces Executive Management Changes

11 October 2005 - Metals USA, Inc. announced that it will appoint Robert C. McPherson III as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. The new appointment takes effect with closing of the pending acquisition of the company by affiliates of Apollo Management, LP. Mr. McPherson will replace Terry L. Freeman, the company's current Chief Financial Officer, who plans to resign upon completion of the transaction with Apollo to pursue other interests.
