15 December 2009 - Standard & Poor’s will add Cliffs Natural Resources Inc.’s shares to the S&P 500 Index effective December 18 after the market closes. Cliffs also will be added to the S&P 500 GICS Steel Sub-Industry index.

14 December 2009 - The U.S. steel industry has reduced its energy intensity per ton of steel shipped by about 31% from 1990 to 2008, reports the American Iron and Steel Institute. This figure is down slightly from 33% in 2007 due to a large drop off in production starting in 4Q 2008.

YTD Stainless, Specialty Imports Down More than 50% through August
07 December 2009 - Total stainless imports reached 234,989tons through August 2009, a 56.8% decrease compared to YTD August 2008 according to the latest report from the SSINA. Total specialty imports reached 308,239 tons through the same period, a 55.4% decrease compared to YTD August 2008.
Cliffs Amends Definitive Agreement to Acquire Freewest
07 December 2009 - Cliffs Natural Resources has amended the terms of the previously disclosed definitive agreement to acquire Freewest Resources Canada Inc. Under the terms of the amended agreement, each Freewest shareholder will now receive CAD$0.90 per share of fixed consideration exclusively in the form of Cliffs common stock.
