Steel Import Permits Rise 12% in January

04 February 2010 - Steel import applications reached 1,537,000 net tons for the month of January, a 12% increase from the 1,377,000 permit tons recorded in December 2009 according to the latest report from AISI.

03 February 2010 - Metals USA Holdings Corp. reported a fourth quarter net loss of $4.4 million compared to a net loss of $7.0 million in fourth quarter 2008. For the 2009 fiscal year, the company's net income was $3.5 million vs. net income for fiscal 2008 of $72.6 million.

27 January 2010 - Ryerson Inc.'s wholly owned subsidiary, Joseph T. Ryerson & Son, Inc., has acquired Texas Steel Processing, Inc. for an aggregate purchase price of approximately $11.4 million.

Severstal North America to Restart Facilities

26 January 2010 - As part of its North American 2010 operating plan, OAO Severstal plans to restart certain facilities that had been previously idled. Severstal Warren is scheduled to return to service its blast furnace, steelmaking, and hot strip mill facilities late in the first quarter of 2010.
