Nucor Announces New Development in St. James Parish Project

28 January 2011 - The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality has issued an air quality permit for Nucor Corp.’s direct reduced iron making facility that will be located in St. James Parish, La. The facility could ultimately lead to construction of a coke plant, blast furnace, pellet plant and steel mill.

Preliminary 2010 Steel Imports up 47% vs. 2009

26 January 2011 - The U.S. imported a total 1,811,000 net tons of steel in December, up 1% from November final data, according to the latest report from AISI. The total included 1,445,000 net tons of finished steel, down 3% from November final data.

2010 World Crude Steel Production Finishes 15% Ahead of 2009

24 January 2011 - World crude steel production for the 66 countries reporting to the World Steel Association stood at an estimated 116.2 million tonnes in December 2010 — a 1.3% increase from the previous month (November 2010). Full-year production, at 1395.46 million tonnes, reflects a 15.2% increase over 2009.
