Essar Steel Algoma Reports Temporary Blast Furnace Outage

Essar Steel Algoma Inc. announced an operating failure and unplanned outage of its No. 7 Blast Furnace. The failure was caused by a cooling water leak that occurred on January 21.
Initial efforts toward an expedited startup were not successful due to extreme weather conditions. The company has now commenced a slow and controlled restart of the furnace, and expects the furnace will return to full operation in approximately ten days.
