AISI Receives US$7.1 Million for Research on Breakthrough Technologies

12 June 2012 - An American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) project proposal to be conducted in collaboration with the University of Utah has been selected by the Department of Energy’s Innovative Manufacturing Initiative for a US$7.1 million award.

06 June 2012 - Based on the U.S. Commerce Department’s most recent Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that steel import permit applications for the month of May totaled 2,895,000 net tons (NT).

New Officers Elected During ISSF-16 in Beijing

22 May 2012 - The International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) elected new office bearers during the organization’s 16th Annual Conference (ISSF-16) recently held in Beijing, China. Joon-Sik Kim, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of the Stainless Steel Business Division of Posco, was elected Chairman of ISSF for a one-year term.

March Steel Shipments up 1.3% from February

17 May 2012 - U.S. steel mills shipped 8,512,825 net tons for the month of March 2012, a 1.3% increase from the 8,407,343 net tons shipped in the previous month according to the latest release from AISI.

Service Center Shipments Show Small Bounce Back in April

16 May 2012 - April service center shipments of aluminum and steel were up slightly in both the U.S. and Canada, an improvement from the year-over-year declines seen in March, according to the latest report from the Metals Service Center Institute.

Finished Steel Imports Up 11% in April

03 May 2012 - Total steel import permit applications reached 3,074,000 net tons for the month of April, a 5% decrease from the 3,248,000 permit tons recorded in March according to the latest report from AISI. Import tonnage for finished steel was up 11% over the same period.

26 April 2012 - The U.S. imported a total of 2,899,000 net tons of steel in March, up 7% from February final data according to the latest report AISI. Finished steel imports were up 4% through the same period.

February Steel Shipments Down 1.1% from January
