Launch of ‘Introduction to Steel’ Online Course on edX
07 May 2015 - The World Steel Association (worldsteel) announces the launch of the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) ‘Introduction to Steel’. The course, developed by TenarisUniversity together with steeluniversity, aims to provide students with an understanding of the history, science, technology and uses of steel by society. The course starts on 2 June 2015 and registration is now open.

22 April 2015 - World crude steel production for the 65 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 138 million tonnes (Mt) in March 2015, a -2.7% decrease compared to March 2014.

21 April 2015 - The World Steel Association (worldsteel) released its Short Range Outlook (SRO) for 2015 and 2016. worldsteel forecasts that global apparent steel use will increase by 0.5% to 1,544 Mt in 2015 following growth of 0.6% in 2014. In 2016, it is forecast that world steel demand will grow by 1.4% and will reach 1,565 Mt.
Associations of Europe and North and Latin America Present Critical Document to the “New” Chinese Steel Industry Policy
21 April 2015 - Eight national and regional associations representing the steel industries of Europe, North and Latin America joined in expressing their concern to the Chinese government about the recently revised “Adjustment Policy 2015” to the Chinese national steel strategy, released last March.

14 April 2015 - According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, in the week ending April 11, 2015, domestic raw steel production was 1,621,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 68.6 percent. Production was 1,841,000 net tons in the week ending April 11, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 76.6 percent.

07 April 2015 - In the week ending April 4, 2015, domestic raw steel production was 1,600,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 67.7 percent. Production was 1,853,000 net tons in the week ending April 4, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 77.1 percent.
February 2015 Steel Exports
06 April 2015 - According to the American Institute for International Steel's report released on 3 April, steel exports fell to less than 900,000 net tons in February, after being above 1 million net tons just four months earlier.
EU Levies Import Duties on Stainless Flats from China and Taiwan
01 April 2015 - The European Commission has imposed provisional anti-dumping duties of up to 25.2 % on stainless steel cold rolled flat (SSCR) imports from PR China and up to 12.0 % on imports from Taiwan, following the complaint which was filed by EUROFER in May 2014.
