U. S. Steel, Carnegie Pension Fund Announce Executive Changes

07 June 2011 - United States Steel and the trustee for its pension and other benefit plans, Carnegie Pension Fund, have announced that Gary A. Glynn, President of the fund since 1985, will retire effective July 31. Effective August 1, William Donovan, who currently serves as Vice President – Investments, will succeed Glynn as President.

Siemens to Supply AOD Converter to Viraj Profiles

07 June 2011 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies won an order from stainless steel producer Viraj Profiles Ltd. to supply an AOD (argon-oxygen decarburization) converter for its plant located in Tarapur, Maharashtra, India. The project is scheduled for completion by mid-2011.

Danieli Group Forms New Business Unit

06 June 2011 - Danieli Group has decided to establish a new business unit, Danieli Linz Technology, to deal with the steel production with Oxygen Converters (BOF). The Group claims that it will become the only company capable of supplying the complete BOF shop with fully owned, proprietary technologies.

V & M Star Builds New Ohio Plant

06 June 2011 - V & M Star is building a new seamless tube plant in Youngstown, scheduled for commissioning in the first half of 2012. Construction is being carried out by Danieli Centro Tube, and Friedrich Kocks will supply its latest-generation Extractor and Stretch Reducing Block.

Outokumpu Divests Part of Ownership in Talvivaara

02 June 2011 - Outokumpu has sold all of its shares in Talvivaara Mining Co. Plc to Solidium Oy, a holding company wholly owned by the Finnish State. Outokumpu also sold one-fifth of its 20% holding in Talvivaara Sotkamo Ltd. to Talvivaara Mining, and granted an option for the purchase of the remaining 16% by the end of the first quarter of 2012.
