GE to Supply Japan’s JFE Steel Co. with Multi-Fuel, On-Site Power Solution at Chiba Steel Mill

18 June 2012 - GE is supplying Japan steel producer JFE Steel Co. Ltd. with a heavy duty Frame 9E gas turbine system for an innovative steel gas-to-energy recovery project at the company’s East Japan Iron Works in Chiba City, located in the Keiyo (Tokyo-Chiba) Industrial Park east of Tokyo.

Essar Steel Commissions Power Plant to Use Waste Heat as Fuel

11 June 2012 - Essar Steel India Limited has commissioned a 19MW heat recovery power plant at its Hazira complex. Using heat generated during the manufacturing process, the plant will provide power internally, creating an energy efficient complex and reducing the company’s power costs.

ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe Improves Environmental Performance with Dortmund CAL Upgrade

28 May 2012 - ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG has modernized the continuous annealing line at its Dortmund site. The new burner technology was developed specifically for use in the Dortmund CAL, and the investment of around 30 million euros will help reduce by half the nitrogen oxide emissions from the line.

ThyssenKrupp Nirosta Permitted to Dispose Slag at Marbach Landfill

13 April 2012 - ThyssenKrupp Nirosta has received permission from Hagen environmental agency to continue to operate and increase the capacity of the Marbach landfill in Bochum-Hamme. The approval notice allows the company to dump slag from its neighboring Bochum stainless steel mill.

ArcelorMittal Ostrava Cuts Annual Solid Emissions by 40%

05 April 2012 - ArcelorMittal Ostrava cut its emissions of solid pollutants by 40% over the past year, releasing 669 tonnes of dust particles into the air in 2011. A program of environmental investments worth close to three quarters of a billion Czech crowns was started this year that will cut sulfur dioxide emissions from its coking and steel plants.

28 March 2012 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from Ruukki Metals Oy to supply and install equipment for a new secondary dedusting system in its converter steelworks in Raahe, Finland. The new system is scheduled to come into operation at the end of 2013.
