AIC Completes Rolling Mill Automation Project
09/07/2022 - Automation specialist Automazioni Industriali Capitanio (AIC) has wrapped up installation of a new automation system for a stand in a Gerdau rolling mill.
In a statement, the company said the rougher stand at Gerdau’s No. 4 rolling mill in Manitoba, Canada, was equipped with a new Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLC as well as new main control desks in the rougher pulpit.
The stand is now fully automatic, AIC said.
Work was carried out during a 10-day outage earlier this summer, and the unit has been operating at full capacity since Day 1, the company said. AIC said the project followed a significant mill automation project at Manitoba in 2019, highlighting the close collaboration between AIC and Gerdau Group.
