Zoning Change Could Ruin Sale of Closed Mill, Says ArcelorMittal
05/01/2017 - A local zoning dispute has the potential to derail ArcelorMittal's plans to sell its shuttered wire rod mill in Georgetown, South Carolina, reports The Post and Courier newspaper.
According to the newspaper, Georgetown city council is rezoning the mill site and changing what its allowable uses are, hoping to pave the way for a potential redevelopment of the waterfront property . The trouble, however, is that council didn't know a sale of the facility, which was permanently closed in 2015, was in the works.
And now, the council may be poised to adopt a zoning measure that would effectively kill the sale, ArcelorMittal says.
The Post and Courier has the story here.
