Zekelman Industries Finalizes Acquisition of Western U.S. Tubemaker
02/20/2017 - Zekelman Industries has closed on its acquisition of Western Tube & Conduit Corp. from Japan’s Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp. and minority shareholders, the company has announced.
"We are very excited to welcome Western Tube & Conduit Corp. to the Zekelman Industries family. Western shares our passion for operational excellence and our high-quality, customer-centric focus," said Zekelman Industries chief executive Barry Zekelman in a statement.
Zekelman Industries had announced the acquisition in December 2016, saying that it would complement the range of conduit, fence pipe and mechanical tubing already sold under Zekelman’s Wheatland Tube division.
Western Tube primarily makes carbon conduit. It employs approximately 238 and has production capacity of 240,000 tons per year. It will retain its Western Tube identity and continue to sell products under that brand.
"Western Tube is an excellent fit for our company," said Jim Hays, president of the electrical, fence and mechanical product divisions of Zekelman Industries. "The acquisition complements our long-term strategies of continued growth in the tubular product market."
