Zekelman Deploys AI-Based Safety System
10/21/2020 - Pipe and tube maker Zekelman Industries Inc. is partnering with an industrial safety tech company on an effort to improve safety at its Atlas Tube facility in Blytheville, Ark.
In a statement, Zekelman said it will install California-based Everguard.ai’s Sentri360 system to enhance the safety protocols already in place for logistics and the tarping of tractor-trailers at the tube mill’s shipping bays.
As Zekelman explains:
“Atlas Tube had previously invested in a truck-tarping safety system to mitigate the risk of falls and injuries while loads are being tarped on the beds of semi-trailers. The addition of Everguard’s Sentri360 platform will ensure proper use of the tarping system and provide, for the first time, proactive alerts to drivers, Atlas team members and plant management when the tarping safety system is not properly in use.”
The Sentri360 collects data through a number of technologies, including computer vision, real-time location system and wearables, and feeds that data to an artificial intelligence system for analysis, providing near-real-time alerts and outputs to managers and workers.
“Safety is the number one priority throughout our organization,” said Zekelman Industries executive chairman Barry Zekelman. “We’ve always embraced emerging technologies in our business. This innovative new AI platform has the potential to further assist us in operating at the highest possible level of safety and efficiency.”
