worldsteel Elects New Officers, Welcomes New Members

The Board of Directors of the World Steel Association has elected the following new officers for 2009/2010:
 
Chairman: Paolo Rocca, Chairman and CEO, Techint Group
 
Vice Chairmen: Lakshmi Mittal, Chairman and CEO, ArcelorMittal; and Hajime Bada, President and CEO, JFE Steel Corp.
 
Treasurer: John Surma, Chairman and CEO, United States Steel Corp.
 
The new officers were elected for one year, until October 2010.
 
On behalf of the Board of Directors, the Director General of worldsteel Ian Christmas thanked Lakshmi Mittal, Chairman for 2008/09, for his support and dedication over the past year.
 
The Board of Directors also elected the 2009/10 Executive Committee:

The Board of Directors has also welcomed the following companies as new members of worldsteel:
 
  • Regular Members (steel companies producing more than 2 million short tons (1.8 million tonnes) per annum): SIDENOR SA, represented by Sarados Milios, CEO.
  • Associate Members (steel companies producing less than 2 million short tons per annum): Cape Town Iron and Steel Works (CISCO), represented by Jimmy Windt, General Manager
The World Steel Association (worldsteel) is one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world, representing approximately 180 steel producers (including 18 of the world's 20 largest steel companies), national and regional steel industry associations, and steel research institutes. worldsteel members produce around 85% of the world's steel.
