World Steel Association Elects New Officers, Welcomes New Members
10/14/2011 - The Board of Directors of the World Steel Association announced the election of new officers for 2011/2012, and also welcomed four companies as new Associate Members of worldsteel.
The Board of Directors of the World Steel Association (worldsteel) announced the election of new officers for 2011/2012. The new officers, who will serve a one-year term that ends in October 2012, include:
· Chairman — Xiaogang Zhang, President, Anshan Iron & Steel Group Corp.
· Vice Chairman — Hajime Bada, President & CEO, JFE Holdings Inc.
· Vice Chairman — Alexey Mordashov, General Director, Severstal JSC
· Treasurer — John Surma, Chairman and CEO, United States Steel Corp.
The Board of Directors met on the first day of worldsteel’s 45th Annual Conference in Paris, France.
Speaking on behalf of the Board of Directors, World Steel Association Director General Edwin Basson thanked Hajime Bada, Chairman for 2010/2011, for his leadership and support over the past year.
“We welcome Xiaogang Zhang as the new Chairman, Hajime Bada and Alexey Mordashov as Vice Chairmen and John Surma as Treasurer,” said Edwin Basson. “We are also delighted to welcome our new members on board.
“We are particularly pleased to see the continued growing membership from emerging countries whose economic development has generated remarkable growth in the global steel industry over the last two decades,” continued Basson. “Our growing new membership is able to access key best practices in the areas of safety and health, technology and environment.”
The Board of Directors also elected the following individuals to the 2011/12 Executive Committee:

The Board of Directors has also welcomed the following companies as new Associate Members of worldsteel. Worldsteel’s associate membership includes steel companies that produce less than 2 million short tons per annum.
