World Steel Association Elects ArcelorMittal CEO as New Chairman
10/08/2008 - The World Steel Association announces the election of Lakshmi Mittal, Chairman and CEO of leading international steel producer ArcelorMittal, to serve as its Chairman.
The World Steel Association (worldsteel) announced the election of Lakshmi Mittal, Chairman and CEO of leading international steel producer ArcelorMittal, to serve as its Chairman. worldsteel announced Mittal’s election as its Chairman during the group’s 42nd Annual Conference, which is being held this week in Washington, D.C.
The association also announced the election of Posco Chairman and CEO Ku-Taek Lee, as a new Vice Chairman, along with Techint Group Chairman and CEO, Paolo Rocca, and U. S. Steel Chairman and CEO, John Surma.
The new officers were elected for one year, until October 2009.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, the Director General of the World Steel Association, Ian Christmas thanked Ku-Taek Lee, Chairman for 2007/2008, for his support and dedication over the past year. Ian Christmas also welcomed Lakshmi Mittal as the new Chairman and Ku-Taek Lee, Paolo Rocca and John Surma as Vice Chairmen.
The Board of Directors also elected the following members to the association’s 2008/9 Executive Committee:

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) is one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world. worldsteel represents approximately 180 steel producers (including 18 of the world's 20 largest steel companies), national and regional steel industry associations, and steel research institutes. worldsteel members produce around 85% of the world's steel.
The association was formerly known as the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) until its name was changed on Oct. 6, 2008.
