With Air Permit in Hand, CMC Looks to Begin Equipping New Mill
05/19/2021 - Commercial Metals Company (CMC) has received an air permit for its planned micro-mill in Mesa, Ariz., clearing the way for mill construction to begin.
"Receiving the air permit is an important milestone in our latest micro-mill project, which we have named Arizona 2," said CMC executive vice president and chief operating officer Tracy Porter.
"With the permit in hand, we can now begin construction in preparation for installation of the mill equipment, which we ordered last year. We still anticipate commissioning to occur during the spring of 2023."
The company revealed plans for the mill last August. It will be its third such facility. Its first micro-mill is also in Mesa, Ariz., and the second is in Oklahoma. The newest mill will have a nominal annual capacity of 500,000 tons and produce both rebar and merchant bar.
