In a statement, SMS group said the improvements to Wuhan Iron & Steel’s No. 2 hot strip mill take its annual production to more than 6 million metric tons annually and enhance product quality. 

Under the project, SMS group revamped the drivetrain on the mill’s second roughing stand to increase rolling torque and upgraded the descaling system. 

“The upgraded descaling system enables WISCO to increase and adapt the descaling pressure to the constantly growing product range and the resulting growing requirements due to the addition of silicon grades, for example, and other surface-related quality demands,” SMS group said.
