Wire Rod Manufacturer Restarts Upgraded Mill
08/23/2016 - SMS group has successfully completed upgrades to a German wire rod mill, the equipment maker has announced.
The company said the upgrades made to the 4-strand mill at Saarstahl AG’s Burbach facility allow for more flexible production and improve plant availability.
SMS said that through the project, it added two additional stands to the roughing mill and installed a shear, a 4-strand switch and a 4-strand pinch roll unit.
“With the expansion of the one-strand roughing mill, different leading pass sections can now be employed without conversion measures. The final cross-section from the roughing mill is the same for all input cross-sections and is then distributed onto the four strands of the wire rod mill by means of the new switch,” the company said in a statement.
