01/27/2022 - The company announced this week it is installing photovoltaic systems at its sites, capable of generating nearly 6 MWp, which is enough green energy to drive 10,000 electric vehicles around the world once a year.
Some 100,000 m2 is already covered by photovoltaic systems at the company’s sites in Linz, Donawitz, Kapfenberg and Krems, Austria. According to voestalpine, similar systems are already in operation at the company’s facilities in Germany and the Netherlands. The company also plans to expand capacity in Spain, the U.S. and China.
“We are very serious about protecting the climate and are implementing a range of different measures. voestalpine’s environmental expenditures have totaled EUR2.4 billion over the past 10 years alone,” said Herbert Eibensteiner, chief executive of voestalpine AG. “The photovoltaic systems are another important milestone on our path to in-house green energy supplies.”
The company said it has reduced its carbon emissions by around 20% over the past three decades.
