voestalpine Tubulars Commissions New Tube Reeler from SMS Meer

The new reeler allows voestalpine to process larger diameters and wall thicknesses.

“We already had positive experiences with the previous reeler from SMS Meer. However, the demands in terms of quality and material have grown over the years. So we are again banking on SMS Meer quality with the replacement of this plant section,” said Heinz Teuschl, head of seamless tubes at voestalpine Tubulars.

Just one week was needed to set up the tube reeler. The plant was shut down for a total of 15 days.

With its new tube reeler voestalpine is able to roll far greater shell weights with a maximum diameter of up to 221 millimeters and wall thicknesses of up to 25 millimeters.

The reeler is of a welded frame design and comprises additional guides for the roll adjustment systems. All work rolls are driven, have a hyperbolic form and are identical in length. Their height and feed angle can be individually adjusted.

Roll changes can also be carried out quickly and easily. In the event of an emergency or major damage, the roll force can be removed by opening the top rolls quickly by hydraulic means. At the same time, the integral hydraulic system can also be used to measure the current roll force.
