VAI and Voestalpine recently started up a new CC 6 single-strand slab caster for Voestalpine Stahl GmbH, Linz. Start-up for the caster, which took place ahead of schedule, is one component of a large-scale enlargement project for the Linz location, referred to as “Linz-Project 2010”.

The continuous caster, supplied by Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau GmbH (VAI), has been designed for an annual production of 1,200,000 tons. The product range for the caster comprises special steel grades for the automotive industry. The caster includes the latest state-of-the-art casting technology and includes newest technological packages with dynamic optimization models.

Voestalpine Stahl operates now four slab casters at the Linz location, all of which were delivered by VAI.
