voestalpine Director Honored as Best Environmental Manager of 2011

The director of Strategic Environmental Management at voestalpine, Hannes Sigmund, was honored at this year’s EMAS Conference as the Best Environmental Manager of 2011.

During the EMAS conference, which took place in late June in St. Pölten under the motto “Environmental Management between Responsibility and Opportunity," Sigmund was awarded the 2011 EMAS award by Federal Minister Berlakovich and the second Provincial Parliament President Johann Heuras.

The honor has been awarded since 1995 by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, the Environment and Water Supply to particularly environmentally friendly companies. Since 2008, it has been awarded to the best environmental managers in the country.

The award recognizes Sigmund’s many years of dedication to the environment and comprehensive activities in cross-vocational environmental protection. As department director, Sigmund manages the corporate affairs of strategic environmental management of voestalpine’s Environmental Department of the Steel Division.

Over the past few years, voestalpine has received several EMAS honors, some of which were awarded for its environmental reports. Most recently, VAEE, voestalpine Schienen GmbH (Donawitz), and voestalpine Stahl GmbH each has been the national award winner.
