voestalpine Adds Granulation Capabilities to New Mill
02/20/2020 - voestalpine BÖHLER Edestahl has placed an order for a metal granulation unit from Sweden’s Uvån Hagfors Teknologi AB, the equipment supplier has announced.
In a statement, UHT said the GRANSHOT unit is bound for voestalpine’s new special steel plant in Kapfenberg, Austria. The EAF-based Kapfenberg plant will produce 205,000 metric tons annually of high-performance steel for the aviation, automotive, and oil and gas industries. voestalpine began major construction last year.
UHT said the GRANSHOT unit will be delivered as a complete plant. UHT also will provide the process engineering and automation.
The company said the unit will feature UHT’s newly developed rotating tundish technology.
“When the tundish is rotated, the metal distributes through nozzle outlets in a radial direction over the water surface. This new granulation technology is developed to improve the granule properties and is especially suited for steel and ferroalloy granulation,” the company said.
