VIZ-Stal to Install Steam Reforming Equipment for Electrical Steel Production

NLMK Group subsidiary VIZ-Stal has received equipment for the construction of a steam reforming facility that will be used to produce hydrogen that will be used in the production of electrical steel.

The new system, which will replace the more expensive electrolysis method currently in use, will be used to produce hydrogen by reforming natural gas. According to the company, once the new system is launched, power consumption will be reduced 37 times compared to the current method, saving some 86 million kWh/year.

The company is implementing this RUR1 billion project alongside “Hydro-Chem” (USA) as part of its large-scale Technical Upgrade Program.

The project will be completed in 2013.
