VELCO Installs Automatic Gunning Installation for Finnish Stainless Producer
07/09/2013 - At the beginning of this year VELCO set up a fully automatic gunning installation for the maintenance of standing ladles for a Finnish stainless steel producer. The gunning system is designed for four ladles which are transported by rail carriage into a gunning hall.
The gunning robot has different programs available for the automatic gunning of the bottom, the side walls and the spout. All programs can be started sequentially without interrupting the gunning process. Two different gunning materials are used — one for the repair of the permanent lining and the second, a light material for the wearing layer. The operator selects the gunning position, the gunning program and the material type, and then the gunning process is carried out automatically. Although it is a fully automatic process, the operator has the option to take manual gunning control via a joystick and to gun individually selected areas.
This gunning installation is highly cost-efficient, as the gunning time can be significantly reduced. This is achieved by higher gunning capacities. The gunning equipment no longer needs to be changed when changing the gunning material. The working strain and dust exposure for the operator is also considerably less, VELCO says.
