VAM USA to Build US$81 Million Pipe Threading Mill in Youngstown
03/14/2014 - The City of Youngstown received a confirmation on 13 March 2014 that the VAM USA LLC US$81 million pipe threading mill project will be located in Youngstown, Ohio.
Construction will begin immediately. VAM USA is a joint venture between Vallourec Star and Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metals. This investment will create approximately 80 jobs with the potential to expand upon that number. The company will be releasing a statement soon.
The city of Youngstown extended its thanks to Jobs Ohio and the Governor’s Economic Development staff, Tom Humphries from the Regional Chamber, Congressman Tim Ryan who secured funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for the original V&M project, and Youngstown City Council who have supported this project from the inception.
Congressman Tim Ryan commented: “I am thrilled that VAM USA has chosen to expand in Youngstown, investing over US$80 million and providing 84 new jobs for the Mahoning Valley. This expansion follows an initial US$20 million in federal stimulus money that led to the public-private partnership and the building of the Vallourec mill. These investments don’t happen by accident; they are the result of hard work by people at all levels of government and private industry.
