Valmont Coatings Division Wins the Prestigious "Lifetime Achievement Award" in Hot-Dip Galvanizing
05/06/2015 - At its recent Annual Meeting, the American Galvanizing Association (AGA) awarded Valmont's Coatings Division top honors in four Excellence Categories associated with the hot-dip galvanizing process. More than 100 projects from galvanizers from around the world were submitted to a panel of architects and engineers to be judged in 14 Categories.
One of the most respected categories is the "Lifetime Achievement Award" presented for a project in service for more than 15 years. Valmont Tampa Galvanizing was recognized for its work at Daytona International Speedway. Daytona International Speedway, the "World Center of Racing" has utilized hot-dip galvanizing in their facility since its inception. Lenny Santiago Sr., Director of Public Relations for the speedway said, "Due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and the concern for a low-cost maintenance facility, the engineers and owners have over the past 58 years selected hot-dip galvanizing as the coating of choice." Valmont Tampa Galvanizing has been privileged to provide galvanizing services in various sections of the speedway in during Daytona's rich history.
AGA's "International Award" was earned by Valmont Coating's Melbourne, Australia facility. The winning project is a six-story multi-level, 18,000 square meter car park extension, for the Austin Hospital in Melbourne. The innovative external design of the car park has delivered a modern, attractive facade and the use of hot-dip galvanized steel ensures many years of useful and attractive life.
Valmont Coatings' Valley Galvanizing is the proud winner of the "Civic Contribution" award. Iowa State University's Design Build Studio and Edgar K. Schutz Scholarship Award Winner Kelsey Vetter, worked with Valley Galvanizing to complete the ISU Pavilion Project nestled on the edge of the university's grassy ball fields. This respite for the parched and sun weary spectator showcases several natural resources in its design. Its open air style boasts a striking combination of hot-dipped galvanized metal, warm wood, water and lush plant life. Galvanized metal was used for the essential structural components as well as sleek trim and thoughtful accents throughout.
Winning the "Transportation" Award was Valmont's Intermountain Galvanizing for its Oakland Airport Connector project. This state of the art transportation system draws cable cars back and forth along a rail between the Oakland Airport and Oakland Coliseum BART station. Hot-dip galvanizing was the first choice for the propulsion system on this project as it was the only corrosion protection capable of meeting the requirements of being affordable, efficient and environmentally friendly. The new age cable car line has a capacity to run 1,492 passengers per hour per direction along the 3.2 mile rail. Hot-dip galvanizing offers unparalleled performance to ensure these parts are visually appealing and maintenance free. The Oakland Airport Connector illustrates a great accomplishment blending the simple cable car design of the past with cutting edge technology of the future.
Rick Cornish, Group President of Valmont's Global Coatings and Tubing Group, commented "Valmont Coatings is deeply honored to have received the four Excellence Awards in Hot-Dip Galvanizing, presented by the American Galvanizing Association." This award program is a great method to promote the contribution to our critical infrastructure that the hot-dip galvanizing industry provides.
