Vallourec Star Dedicates New $11.8 Million Upgrade at Muskogee
04/24/2014 - Vallourec Star today dedicated its new Bronx Straightener used in the finishing process to hot-straighten pipes for oil and gas drilling and exploration applications.
This is an US$11.8 million investment in a state of the art facility, rebuilt and upgraded after a fire in August 2012 destroyed major equipment and caused more than US$6 million in property damage.
With this capital investment, Vallourec Star installed upgraded machinery and increased the physical plant to accommodate the new equipment. It also took the opportunity to improve the flow of the plant, in line with its lean manufacturing evolution. Brian Sampson, general manager said, "This investment improves our plant's productivity and allows us to better serve our customers with faster production and improved product performance."
The State of Oklahoma, Department of Commerce provided a US$2 million grant toward the investment. Speaking at the dedication, the Honorable Governor of Oklahoma, Mary Fallin stated, "My priority as governor is to help create jobs and grow Oklahoma's economy. Vallourec Star is helping to lead the way in that effort. I am thrilled to see this great company continue to expand and upgrade its facilities in our state. Vallourec and its hundreds of Oklahoma employees are an important part of our community."
Vallourec Star employs over 200 people at its Muskogee Plant. Located on 116 acres at the Port of Muskogee, it offers heat treatment facilities, electromagnetic and ultrasonic testing capabilities, finishing and hydrostatic pressure testing facilities, and premium threading lines for seamless steel pipe. Since 2011, the Muskogee plant has expanded its product lines and added 25 jobs.
