Vallourec Sees Early Results in Furnace Optimization Project

Vallourec said the nCOOP project, or Energy Consumption Optimization, was launched late last year. Using 30 gigabytes of operating data, researchers and engineers at the company and GE built a predictive model and created optimization software that offers on-the-fly recommendations to operators.

“Today, we are seeing the first encouraging results of the nCOOP project. It will permit significant savings, both financial and environmental,” the company said.

It said it plans to eventually roll out the technology to its EAF in Brazil.
