Vale Selects Partner for Electrolyzer Feasibility Studies
10/03/2024 - Iron ore miner Vale has partnered with a German company to study the feasibility of a green hydrogen production facility in Brazil.
Working with Green Energy Park (GEP), the companies will collaborate on various aspects of the hydrogen value chain, such as the deployment of electrolyzers, the design of industrial plants for green hydrogen and its derivatives, as well as other industrial applications for decarbonizing renewable hydrogen.
Vale said GEP brings deep engineering, procurement and construction experience in cryogenic gas handling and storage on a global scale, combined with dedicated infrastructure and industrial construction capabilities.
“This is a win-win partnership for Brazil and Europe,” said Ludmila Nascimento, Vale’s director of energy and decarbonization.
“We are leveraging Brazil’s competitive advantages, such as high-quality iron ore and abundant renewable energy, to potentially develop the supply of green hydrogen, which will enable the supply of high-value ‘green’ HBI to European steelmakers. At the same time, we are inducing the neo-industrialization of Brazil, based on a low-carbon economy, and contributing to the fight against climate change.”
