Vale, Nippon Steel Sign MoU to Develop Steelmaking Decarbonization Solutions
04/26/2022 - Vale announced today it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Nippon Steel to explore ironmaking solutions focused on carbon-neutral steelmaking.
The two companies intend to study metallics usage solutions such as direct reduced iron and pig iron produced via the Tecnored technology and usage of Vale’s green briquettes and other lower-carbon-footprint products.
According to Vale, the initiative contributes to its commitment to reduce 15% of net Scope 3 emissions by 2035. In line with the Paris Agreement, the company aims to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 33% by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2050.
