VAII to Upgrade
Cascade Steel Rolling Mills EAF
Jan. 8, 2004 — Voest-Alpine Industries, Inc. (VAII) has been awarded a contract from Cascade Steel Rolling Mills, Inc. to modernize their Electric Arc Furnace.
This modernization will allow the client to utilize a two-bucket charge when loading scrap rather than the current three-bucket charging procedure. VAII will utilize VAI Fuchs Technology and to increase the volume of the furnace.
VAII’s contract includes engineering, equipment procurement, and advisory site services, and Cascade Rolling Mills will provide the construction and civil works. Most of the mechanical components of the furnace will be redesigned and replaced including the following:
- Upper and lower shell (EBOT)
- Tilt platform/superstructure
- Gantry lift and swivel assembly
- Electrode guide columns and masts
- VAI Fuchs single-point roof lift system
- Roof assembly and water cooled panels
Equipment is scheduled to be delivered by the end of June 2004 for immediate installation and commissioning during an approximately two-week shutdown.
