VAII to Modernize Cascade Steel EAF

April 16, 2004 — Cascade Steel Rolling Mills, Inc. has awarded a contract to Voest-Alpine Industries, Inc. (VAII) to modernize their electric arc furnace with VAI Fuchs Technology and to increase the volume of the furnace.

The modernization will allow Cascade to utilize a two-bucket charge when loading scrap rather than the current three-bucket charging procedure.

VAII’s contract includes engineering, equipment procurement, and advisory site services, with Cascade Rolling Mills providing the construction and civil works. Most mechanical components of the furnace will be redesigned and replaced including the following:

  • Upper and lower shell (EBOT)
  • Tilt platform/superstructure
  • Gantry lift and swivel assembly
  • Electrode guide columns and masts
  • VAI Fuchs single-point roof lift system
  • Roof assembly and water cooled panels

The equipment is scheduled to be delivered by the end of June 2004 for immediate installation and commissioning during an approximate two-week shutdown.

Voest-Alpine Industries, Inc. (VAII) is a US-based subsidiary of Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau (VAI), a company of the listed VA Technologie AG.
