VAI MS to Supply Converter Vessels
to Siderúrgica Belgo Mineira

Feb. 23, 2004 — VAI-MS was recently awarded a new contract from Companhia Siderúrgica Belgo-Mineira, Brazil.

VAI-MS will supply, on a turnkey basis, two new converter vessels with the VAI-CON® - Quick suspension system, which will be installed at Belgo’s BOF Steelmaking Plant at João Monlevade, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Belgo’s goals for the project are improved steel production efficiency and the ability to produce approximately 1.2 million tonnes of steel per year.

The new equipment is scheduled to start up in December 2004.

Companhia Siderúrgica Belgo-Mineira, Brazil, is a subsidiary of Arcelor Group. Operating in the Brazilian market for 81 years, Belgo is one of the biggest private groups in Brazil, with 7000 employees and annual production capacity of 4.2 millions tonnes of long products.

VAI-MS is a Brazilian daughter company of Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau (VAI), Austria.
